About me

I’m Layney — a forty‑plus woman who finally stopped saying “one day” and started throwing myself into the wild corners of the world. I’m new to hiking, wild camping, kayaking, and generally doing things that make my family say, “Are you sure that’s safe?”

Spoiler: I’m usually not sure, but I go anyway.

I started this blog to document the messy, magical, occasionally unhinged journey of learning outdoor adventure later in life. I’m not a seasoned mountaineer or a wilderness guru — I’m just a woman who bought a pair of hiking boots, stepped outside, and realised she’d been missing out on an entire universe.

This space is where I share the wins, the fails, the gear I swear by, the trails I fall on, and the moments that make me feel alive in a way I didn’t know I needed.

— J.R.R. Tolkien

Out here, I’ve discovered things I didn’t expect:

That the first mile of a hike is always a lie.

  • That kayaks have a personal vendetta against me.
  • That wild camping is 50% peace, 50% “what was that noise?”
  • And that adventure doesn’t care how old you are — it just wants you to show up.
